How To Have A More Productive And Inspiring Vacation

Close your eyes.

Imagine you’re on vacation.

Or if you’re on vacation, you can open your eyes.

Good feeling, isn’t it?

Vacation is something we all look forward to, dare I say, live for? Especially if you are in a less-than-ideal job, you probably live for the moments you can be out of the office doing what you want. If you’re one of those people who don’t take vacations, you should probably stop murdering small puppies (because that’ obviously what non-vacationers do).

The truth is, we all need vacations. As pastors, worship leaders, & creatives, we need a break from our routines to rest and be reenergized.

A Lead Pastor’s Guide To Understanding Their Creative Staff

Whether you are a creative staff member or a lead pastor, it helps to have some understanding as to how each other thinks.

A few weeks ago I posted an article on The Worship Leader’s Guide to Understanding Their Senior Pastor. It’s so important to adopt the vision and values of your lead pastor.

Fulfilling their vision is part of your God-ordained role.

10 Tips For Creating & Releasing Your Art…On A Budget

Ever since I released my first independent worship album I’ve been asked a lot of questions on how I created it, how much it cost, what first steps I took, etc. I think when someone takes action on their dream rather than just, well, dreaming about it, it inspires people.

And that’s what I want you to do. It’s time to stop dreaming about your dreams and start taking some action.

Dear Worship Leader,

This might be hard to swallow, but I’m going to be stepping down from the team.

I know you probably hate me right now, but it’s just not working out.

Success Myths: Why You Shouldn’t Wait To Be Discovered

Because if you do, you probably won’t be. Maybe 15 years ago executives and record companies were looking. But not anymore. I’m sorry.

If you want something, you’re gonna have to chase it.

Ever feel like everyone is passing you by?

Seth Godin wrote a great post on not waiting to be picked. This applies so perfectly to musicians, artists, and innovators who are waiting to be “discovered”.

Is Your Worship Environment Excellent?

Maybe that’s not a question you’ve considered before. But it may just revolutionize what you do. Consider how a great waiter makes your dining experience all the more enjoyable. When the service is poor, you have no desire to return. Even if the food was great, all you can talk about is the poor service.

I’ve found this to be true for worship as well.

Doesn't this just put you in a good mood?

A couple months ago my wife and I stayed at a local ski resort for a night. Inside our room when we arrived was a $25 gift card to a restaurant on the premise. Due to the kind gesture, we decided to try it out. A shuttle picked us up and dropped us off at the door. We were greeted by some very happy people. So far so good.
