By now you know that Sunday comes fast.
Just when you finished scheduling, picking out songs, rehearsing, and leading worship, it’s time to do it again.
Without an intentional discipleship strategy, without a plan, you’ll invariably resort to “pulling off Sunday” and using volunteers to get it done.
Excellence.
It’s a word we use a lot when it comes to our worship teams. Tight music. Slick arrangements. Synchronized lights. A thin layer of haze. Air tight programming of every service element.
But is there a limit to this creativity? Does there come a moment when it’s too much? When it becomes a distraction?
Worship Leader, it’s a new year.
A clean slate. The beginning of new opportunity.
Before you stress yourself out at all that needs to get done, I want to challenge you to do one thing. If possible, simplify your task list for today and just do this.
This exercise will help you enter the new year with confidence. It will help you operate from a place of vision, rather than a place of stress.
And, it will only take a half hour of your time. Trust me, this half hour just might make the biggest difference for your worship team this year.
What should you do?
Is worship ministry all about excellence?
If modern worship is any indicator, I would say it is.
We place our attention on lights. Sound. Stage. Guitars. Haze. Crowds. Band.
Sure, these things aren’t the devil.
But does a Christ-centered worship ministry just happen? Is it a by product of these things or is it something more?
Have you ever read this Scripture verse?
“Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy” (Psalm 33:3).
If you lead worship, I’m sure you have. But you may be wondering, “How?” or “Why can’t I have a band like Israel Houghton, or Michael Gungor, or Chris Tomlin?”
