When you feel tempted to move on to more “productive” tasks, force yourself to stay a little longer.
There’s nothing more productive in all the world.
I suppose it happens to all of us.
You’re under the spotlight. The congregation is singing. Everyone is having a good time.
But in the end…is God truly being worshiped?
Because it’s possible for your band to be tight with musical chemistry.
You congregation singing at the top of their lungs.
Everyone can be dancing, shouting, lifting their hands and… the glory of God be completely ignored.
Nobody likes to be the new guy.
All around you see worship leaders of large churches, touring musicians of crazy talent, and veterans who’ve been leading for years.
But what if you just started or are waiting for your time? That can be one of the scariest moments of your life.
When I started leading worship, it was the grace of God that prevented me from having an anxiety attack every time.
The crowds of people, no matter how small, freaked me out.
My inexperience with singing left me terrified.
The spiritual pressure of engaging a room left me spellbound.
If I could slip back in time, this is the advice I would offer myself. And it’s the advice I offer to you, young worship leader.
Not all worship leaders are the same. And I’m wondering if that is OK.
Some of you will never write worship songs.
Some of you will never go on tour.
Some of you will never pursue mastery in an artistic sense.
The question becomes: is that necessary for success as a worship leader?
You know the cliches. You read the books. You bought the T-shirt.
But how does that translate into worship leading? How do you move from merely singing a setlist to leading in worship?
