Sometimes Sunday comes and the last thing you want to do is lead worship.
You feel depressed. You’re annoyed with how things have been going. The stress level is high. Or you’re just feeling lazy, right?
You’d rather stay home and watch LOST reruns for a week. Or a month. Or take a sabbatical for a while.
What do you do in that situation?
We’ve all been there.
You’ve rehearsed the new songs for weeks. The bass line is killer. Harmonies tight.
The loop you you labored over for 49 days makes you prouder than a Dad at his son’s first baseball game.
You’re ready.
You lead worship and the congregation cheers wildly at your incredible performance.
Except for the fact that they don’t. At all.
What I’m about to say has the potential to make us enemies for life.
I saw U2 twice in the last two months. Twice. Are we good? Awesome.
While I really loved the show, it wasn’t the show itself that mesmerized me the most.
Yes, the rotating expanding screen was amazing. The light show was second to none. I’ll bet the stage design even gave George Lucas new ideas.
The songs, the sound, the delivery – best I’ve ever seen.
The hour before I do anything is a nightmare.
I hate waiting. Patience isn’t just a virtue I don’t possess, I’m deathly allergic to it. Then again, it’s not really a fruit of the Spirit, so I’m good. Oh, wait.
I stress about what’s going to happen. I’m nervous.
The hour before going to the dentist? Sheer terror.
The hour before dinner is ready? Pure starvation.
The hour before I lead worship?
I wish I could say I was worshiping, crying vehement cries of intercession, and preparing my heart and my team to encounter the presence of Almighty God.
